The beginnings of SVEA date back to 1949, when the state-owned company, Žaga KLO Zagorje sawmill, was established by a decree from the local authorities. The facility was hired from Janez Bajcer, the owner of the sawmill at that time. A year later, a joiners’ workshop was set up nearby. Janez Brun donated a part of his property to the newly founded company, Mizarstvo KLO Zagorje.
In 1953, both of the workshops, the sawmill and the Mizarstvo plant, merged to form a single company, Lesno predelovalno podjetje Zagorje. Two years later, with a decree from the Trbovlje regional authorities, the following companies merged: Lesno podjetje Jesenovo woodworking plant, the sawmill plant Jagnjenica and Uprava komunale za gospodarstvo Lomo Radeče Industrial Utilities Management. The newly founded company was renamed Lesno predelovalno podjetje Trbovlje (Woodworking Company) and had its seat in Zagorje. Two years later Zagorje ob Savi was officially registered as the company’s registered office. Back then, the company’s core business was the production of standard furniture for living rooms and kitchens, as well as windows and doors for individual investors.
